I am most proud of the connections I build with my couples as we get to know each other through the process of their engagement. With time, I have learned that other florists want to help each other out more than I think.Ĭan you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?Įverwild Floral is a Texas-based wedding florist. Also, I am not afraid to ask questions and ask for help. I try to read as much as I can and each wedding, I do add another tool to my toolkit on how to run this business better. I have found programs that offer a lot of help to florists, but with a hefty price. Thankfully, we live in a rental home with the perfect studio space for me in the form of an air-conditioned shed in our backyard. I was making wedding flowers out of a college home, my parent’s house, my now husband’s parents’ house and it was extremely stressful. I thankfully had my own room, but I was carrying huge boxes of flowers and buckets of water up the stairs where I would be trapped in that space trying to design. ![]() Since I was doing weddings my entire Senior year of college, a huge obstacle for me was space. To name a few of things that were each a challenge in itself would be: getting connected with a wholesaler, creating recipes for arrangements and ordering them in time, the mechanics of installations for ceremonies, how to price each item and charge customers, knowing how much time I need to design, using foam-free mechanics, the process of creating and making proposals, and designing in general. Which is not the most comforting of terms to hear when you are trying to make a living. ![]() Most of what I learned and continue to learn is through trial and error. The industry is multifaceted and competitive, and beginners aren’t offered much direction. I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?Ĭreating a business in the wedding industry as a 21-year-old is as far from smooth sailing as you can get. A huge success in my book, considering I graduated college and got married between it all! I completed my first solo wedding in November 2020, and two others before completing the wedding that jumpstarted Everwild in the first place! In 2021 I completed 17 weddings, 4 styled shoots, and countless other arrangements. Once I began my Instagram account, I was receiving more inquiries that I ever expected. That summer of social distancing allowed me to take the time I needed to set up my business. I was ecstatic to accept thinking that a year would be “so much time” to get my ducks in a row. Until a gracious friend of mine was looking for a florist for her wedding the following year. I was sent home from college and felt devastated that I had lost so much precious time. I worked for several women-owned wedding floral operations across Texas and soaked up every ounce of knowledge and experience I could get my hands on. How would I know if it was what I should do? As I felt time was ticking on my college days, I applied to work for florist shops around town and eventually found the perfect fit. Through this “soul-searching” if you will, and many prayers later, I truly feel that floral design fell into my lap. You can imagine the difficulty I gave the career center when I explained that my passions included: art, faith, and nature while not wanting a typical 9-5 job. Fast forward to Sophomore year after I had watched several of my friends further down the path from where I was, and I knew nursing wasn’t for me.įrom there I utilized every resource my school offered, trying to find a career goal that combined everything I wanted. ![]() ![]() I was far more focused on my future income than pursuing a career I was truly passionate about. In my late teen years, I believed that I had to choose a career path that was “sensible” and financially “secure”.
